Recommendation

That the Minutes of the proceedings of the Sister City Community Committee Meeting held on 6 April 2018 be confirmed as a true and accurate record.

RP-1               SISTER CITY SIGNAGE UPDATE

Analysis:

The purpose of this report is to enable staff to provide the committee with an overview of potential designs for the Sister City signage and to seek feedback before progressing further   with the signs.

 

 

Recommendation

That the Committee receive and note the update provided 

 

Report

At the Sister City meeting held on the 15 February 2018 it was resolved:

 

That the Committee recommends that Council:

a.      accepts the donation from the Miss Wagga Wagga Committee in the amount of $2,000, for the development of Sister City signage;

b.      that staff investigate an appropriate location for the Sister City signage and noting the Sister City Community Committees preference of the Visitors Information Centre.

c.      request a member of the Visitors Information Centre to attend the next  meeting of the Sister City Committee Meeting to discuss promotional materials.

Council then resolved the following at the 26 March 2018 Council Meeting:

 

That Council:

a       receive the minutes of the Sister City Community Committee Meeting held on 15 February 2018

b       consider leading a delegation from Wagga Wagga to Kunming to attend the 2018 South China Expo and Import/Export Fair from 12 June to 18 June 2018

c        accept the donation from the Miss Wagga Wagga Quest in the amount of $2,000 for the development of Sister City signage

d       endorse proceeding with the design and erection of a Sister City sign at the Visitor’s Information Centre

e       approve the budget variation/s as detailed in the budget section of the report

 

Council staff have commenced developing concept designs for the signage. These will be presented to the committee for feedback before progressing further with the design and procurement of signage.

RP-2               UPDATE TO SISTER CITY ACTION PLAN

Analysis:

The purpose of this report is to discuss the cancellation of the Kunming visit and potential changes to the Sister City Budget Plan itinerary.

 

 

Recommendation

That the Committee receive and note the report

 

Report

As per the recommendation from the Sister City Community Committee, Council resolved to send a delegation to Kunming to attend the 2018 South China Expo and Import/Export Fair from 12 June to 18 June 2018.

 

The Committee then received advice that the proposed visit to Kunming was subsequently cancelled and it has been proposed that a business delegation may visit in 2019.

 

Due to the Kunming visit not proceeding, alternate visits have been discussed for late 2018.

 

It is requested that the Committee review the Sister City Budget Plan as attached in light of these recent changes and update it to align with planned future visits.

Financial Implications

Changes will be required to be made to the Sister City Action plan to reflect the change to the Kunming visit for August 2018.

RP-3               SISTER CITY PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS

`Analysis:

The Committee would like to receive information regarding potential promotional materials for Sister Cities.

 

 

That the Committee receive and note the feedback provided

 

Report

The Sister City Community Committee members have requested for a staff member from the Visitors Information Centre (VIC) to attend this meeting to discuss promotional materials that are able to be purchased through the VIC.

 

Mrs Sarah Myers, the Visitor Services Operations Officer will be attending this meeting to provide the Committee with advice.
