Michael Whiteside, Communities and Justice delivered a verbal update on abandoned social housing properties, priority areas and process on how this is being addressed.

BUSINESS WITH NOTICE
1. Committee Resignations
Resignations have been received from Community Member Justin Busuttil and Simone Jolley from Department of Justice.
Action: Janice Summerhayes will provide a report to the next meeting around process of committee resignations and options for the remaining term of the Crime Prevention Working Group.
2. Sub Committee Motion
The below amended motion was put forward and endorsed.
Recommendation:
On the Motion of T Gardiner and K van der Wijngaart
That a sub-committee of the Crime Prevention Working Group be put in place to help Wagga Wagga City Council to coordinate a survey of residents of high crime related areas to discuss ideas thoughts and actions that can contribute to the review process of Council’s 2021 Crime Prevention Plan.
Membership will consist of T Gardiner, K van der Wijngaart and Mayor, Councillor Greg Conkey OAM (ex-offico).
Action: Lisa Saffery to coordinate input with the subcommittee as per the above motion.
3. Illegal Drugs in Wagga Wagga
Dr Joe McGirr raised concerns about illegal drugs off shore due to Covid-19.
Action: Adrian Telfer, Detective Inspector to provide information on illegal drugs supply and response at the next meeting 21 September 2020.
GENERAL BUSINESS AROUND THE TABLE
Working Group Members Around the Table
1. Thomas Gardiner requested information and the process on habitual offenders. Beth Van Bast from Communities and Justice will provide information on the Offending Program at the next meeting.
2. Thomas Gardiner requested information on crime relating to age and type of offences.
Action: Adrian Telfer, Detective Inspector to provide this information to Council’s Social Planner for circulation to the working group members.
Wagga Wagga Local Area Command Update
Wagga Wagga Local Area Command provided an updated on police targets over the last reporting period, general statistics, border closures and proactive approach regarding domestic violence.
