Acknowledgement Of Country

Wagga Wagga City Council acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land, the Wiradjuri people, and pays respect to Elders past, present and future and extends our respect to all First Nations Peoples in Wagga Wagga.

 

We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs and continuing connection with the land and rivers. We also recognise the resilience, strength and pride of the Wiradjuri and First Nations communities.

RESIGNATION OF COUNCILLOR PAUL FUNNELL

 

The Mayor, Councillor Greg Conkey OAM, acknowledged the resignation of Councillor Paul Funnell on 2 July 2021, due to ill health. The Mayor on behalf of Council, thanked and expressed appreciation to Councillor Funnell for his significant contribution to Council and the City over the past two terms of Council, serving on Council from September 2012 to July 2021. The Mayor, wished Councillor Funnell all the best for the future.

i         that the report’s recommendations will be provided to the project funding body, Department of Communities and Justice and be made available to other relevant government bodies or organisations

ii        specific recommendations highlighted in the body of this report will be further advanced by the Wagga Women’s Health Centre

b       provide a letter of thanks to the State Government Department of Communities and Justice for the funding of the project and for their support over the past three years

QUESTIONS/BUSINESS WITH NOTICE

 

 

Councillors R Kendall and D Hayes requested an update on the progress of Council’s grant application in regards to water at Lake Albert. 

 

The General Manager, Peter Thompson provided a verbal update that no response has been received to date from the federal government in relation to the grant application. Planning and discussions are continuing with Riverina Water in relation to pipeline route and design. With a detailed proposed design to be submitted to the State Government for confirmation and request for updated status.

 

Councillor D Hayes requested advice on if an E-Sports event will be this year. 

 

Councillor D Hayes requested advice on if Council will be considering implementing a ‘Racism is on Not Welcome’ Campaign, as presented at the 2021 ALGA Conference.

 

The Mayor, Councillor G Conkey OAM requested feedback on the success of the Ice Skating rink in the Victory Memorial Gardens as part of “Lost Lanes’ and open for the July 2021 school holiday period.

 

The Director of Community, Janice Summerhayes provided a verbal response advising that Council have received an overwhelming response with hundreds of positive comments from the community.
