In April 2019 Council resolved to provide in principle support to becoming a full member of the Riverina Joint Organisation (RIVJO) and delegated authority to the Mayor and General Manager to finalise negotiations. The purpose of this report is to provide Councillors with an update on where those negotiations are up to and to seek a formal resolution to join. |
That Council: a endorse becoming a member of the Riverina Joint Organisation b write to the Minister for Local Government (Minister) requesting the Governor proclaim Wagga Wagga as a member of the Riverina Joint Organisation joining the current Council areas of Bland, Coolamon, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional, Greater Hume Shire, Junee, Lockhart and Temora |
Report
At the 8 April 2019 Council meeting it was resolved:
That Council:
a discontinue its membership with the Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils (REROC) at the end of the 2018/19 Financial Year
b provide written notice to REROC of this decision and thank them for their support over a long period of time
c delegate authority to the Mayor and General Manager to negotiate an exit from REROC
d provide in principle support in becoming a full member of the Riverina Joint Organisation
i delegate authority to the Mayor and General Manager to finalise negotiations with the Riverina Joint Organisation with the intent of becoming a full member
e approve the budget variation/s as detailed in the Financial Implications section of the report
After finalising negotiations, Council has received the attached letter from RIVJO endorsing Council’s request to become a member.
Financial Implications
The 2019/20 membership fee is $5,000. Prior to June 2020, RIVJO are required to adopt a new Revenue Policy for 2020/21, which will include future membership contributions. Council has allocated $60,754 in the 2019/20 budget for the RIVJO.
